Joy to the World in 2017

Joy to the World

It's fair to say that 2016 has been BIG for Jock Athletic. But before we do a roll call on our list of adventures and achievements, we extend a heartfelt thanks to our athletes, their parents (our parents) and our strategic partners for trusting in us and supporting our work, year after year.

Where to begin?

We commemorated 10 years in business! Say whaaaattt?? Crazy but all worth it.

We hosted our 10th Annual Jane McGrath Classic soft sand run, created to honour our beautiful friend Jane and my Mum Helen. We are so proud of this race and the $50,000 we've been able to raise for the McGrath Foundation in the process.

We returned to the Snowy Mountains for our annual Altitude Training Camp with over a dozen athletes. The energy from these camps and the hard work that is put out is testament to their committment to their sport. It's contagious!

This year our Fast Bowling Fitness Program exploded, with several state and international fast bowlers, 3 Grade Clubs and several junior fast bowlers training through the winter to injury-proof their bodies ahead of the Australian Summer of Cricket. Most noteably Mitchell Johnson & George Bradley Hogg, now 45, and in the shape of his life playing for the Melbourne Renagages in the BBL. Best of luck to our other BBL stars, Gurinder Sandhu and Nathan McAndew, both playing with the Sydney Thunder.

We collected a swag of bling in Surf Life Saving competition, including 2 Australian Titles, before heading to The Netherlands to collect a staggering 6 World Championship Gold Medals, as well as several silver and bronze medals.

We cheered on our Olympian Elzy Wellings at the Rio Olympics, then took a quick side trip to Brussels to see her go 'round and 'round again in the Diamond Leauge (bucket list TICK!).

We returned home to the sand dunes of Stockton to take out the double in the Red Bull 10km Dune Dusters race. Seriously Epic!

And at the other end of the spectrum, we introduced our Junior Development Squad, a running program for 6-8yos headed up by Mel Campbell. Their potential (and energy) is next level!

We are so proud to be able to say since 2006, we have had the continued support of some incredible partners, including

Tony Hindle from T-Bone Productions
George Gourlas & Andrew Valacas from Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Cronulla
Sean Tindale from Runnulla
Chanh Le Huy from Adidas Eyewear
Rochelle Gilmore from High5 Nutrition and
Jaimie Fuller from SKINS Compression Garments, who has been with us since day 1.

And it all continues again in 2017, starting with our Altitude Training Camp in January. No rest for the committed!

Finally, to our engine room, Rory, Melly O & Dee, thanks a mil for keeping these wheels turning!

From Mel & I, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all - stay safe over the holiday period.
