Jock Athletic Runners Excel at Surf Live Saving National Titles
Gold for Ali and Kai at Surf Life Saving National Titles
Jock Athletic runners have produced some excellent displays this past week in Perth, claiming two gold medals amongst a host of other medals and outstanding performances.
Ali Najem comfortably won gold in the Open Men's 2km beach run. After missing the titles last year Ali was determined to win back his title and did so in style
Kai Hammond won gold in a much closer race in the U/15 Men's 2km run. It was only in the last 100m that Kai took the lead and maintained his position running a very strong race
Greer Calabro won silver in the 30-34 Women's beach sprint, a great effort to improve on her bronze 4 years ago
Donna Cox won silver in the 50-54 Women's 2km beach run, continuing her run of impressive performances
David Jones did extremely well to win bronze in the 40-44 Men's 2km at his first attempt, letting out a grunt as he surged into medal contention on the line
Lachie Crawford earnt his first medal at National Titles, winning bronze in the U.19 Men's 2km. This was especially great to see after an ankle injury cut his preparation time down significantly. Lachie backed this up with 6th in the Open Men's run. The whisper is that he also indulged in his first coffee at Grind the week he got back, so plenty of firsts for Lachie this week.
Our very own head coach Jock Campbell, 4 months after major back surgery, just missed the medals to finish 4th in the 45-49 Men's 2km. An outstanding result considering the recovery, rehab and preparation required even to be able to run.
Dee McCarthy produced another strong performance, to finish 5th in a very competitive race
Caitlin Hammond, after a disrupted preparation through injury, and at her first national titles, finished an impressive 9th in the U/17 Women's 2km beach run.
Well done to all our SLS runners, it's great to see how well our athletes perform when tested against the best in Australia.
